Swim Team Fun
The end of swim team season was so much fun. On Thursday night, we decorated cars and paraded through the neighborhood honking the horn and yelling, "Go Whales". Friday was the preliminary meet where everyone gets a chance to swim, but only the top 6 swimmers or relays from each event get to swim on Saturday. Drew qualified to swim in the freestyle relay on Saturday. Saturday's meet was a good time. Each team has a theme and parades around the pool. Our team's theme was jungle animals and the kids put on masks and hats. The meet passes quickly since there is just one heat of each event. The other neat thing is that every child's name is announced before they swim.
Fun Friends!

Sweet 6 and under boys!
Ready to swim
The team gathers for a cheer. Drew is on the left side.
I was so proud of my swimmer. At the last swim practice he was given the Swimmer of the Week Cap for the 6 and Under boys group! He was proud of himself, too!

And now for the results... Drew's Freestyle relay team won!!! During the preliminary meet they came in second. But at the championship meet all the boys "turned it on"and they won by several seconds. Drew did so great! It may have been his fastest lap all season. He took his first breath halfway down the pool. Brett video taped it and I think we have watched it too many time to count! Drew was thrilled to get a first place medal. What a great finish to a good swim team season. Next year will be harder since he will be in the next age group, but hopefully he will continue to improve and have fun!

8 and under meet
The first swim meet of the year was the 8 and Under Meet. It is a way for the younger swimmers to get a taste of what a meet is like without it taking too long. The kids get ribbons after each heat where at the regular meets only the top 7 swimmers get ribbons. Drew has improved so much from last year.
He's ready with his racing dive

Our Little Fish
Swim Team practice has dominated our May and June. Rebecca participated in the Tadpole part of swim team. Young swimmers are allowed to practice for a month. If at the end of the month they are able to swim the length of the pool, then they can join the team. Rebecca is still learning and loved going to practice. Hopefully, next year she will be a full-fledged Whale!

On to First Grade
I can't believe that Drew has finished Kinder and I now have a First Grader. It seems that I was just taking him to the school to be tested for Kinder and now he is done. After a very rough beginning, the year went very well. He learned to read, add to 10, subtract numbers 1-10, and he can count by 2's, 5's, and 10's. He enjoyed science and art. Drew was so sad to leave his teacher. He loved Mrs. Tran. I am thankful to God for placing him with a compassionate teacher who was patient with him. Good job Drew, we are proud of you!
