First Grade Goes to the Zoo

 Love these sweet friends!

Drew's class took a field trip to the zoo. It was fast and furious and hot. Thankfully we go to the zoo often, so it wasn't too big of a deal that we didn't get to see our favorite animals.

Rebecca is learning literary devices

The beginning of this story might be TMI (too much information). Ok you are warned.
Rebecca still needs help wiping after using the potty. One day I told her that "this is the highlight of my day" (said dripping with sarcasm). Then Rebecca started telling me (when she needed me to wipe her) "Mom, it the highlight of your day." I had to explain to her that I was using sarcasm, that what you are saying is really the opposite of what you mean.
So with that knowledge, she has put it to use. Conversation between Rebecca and Brett. Rebecca says, "Daddy, you have nice hair. That's sarcasm."
Background for the second use of sarcasm: Rebecca loves BAYLOR (she is such a smart girl) and wants to be a Baylor Cheerleader when she is older. So she often (and I mean often) will say the Baylor cheer "B-A-Y-L-O-R, Baylor Bears Fight". She was snuggling with Brett and she starts her Baylor cheer, so I say to her, "Becca, you can also say 'Gig 'Em, Aggies" (yes, those words did come out of my mouth). With the most monotone voice she could use, she said, "Gig 'Em, Aggies, that's sarcasm." Goodness, I love that girl!!
So since she has learned sarcasm, I guess we will move on to teaching her hyperbole, irony, and some other terms that I learned in high school.

Easter!

I serve a risen Saviour; He's in the world today. I know that He is living, whatever men may say. I see His hand of mercy, I hear His voice of cheer, And just the time I need Him He's always near. He lives! He lives! Christ Jesus lives today! He walks with me and talks with me along life's narrow way.He lives! He lives! Salvation to impart! You ask me how I know He lives? He lives within my heart.

Field Day

Drew's school held field day early this year and that was a great idea. When it is held in late May it is so hot. Soccer ball races, egg races, bouncy ball races, water races, scooter races and frisbee toss made for a fun day.
